Ball-Activated Sleeve

A Ball-Activated Sleeve is a mechanical device used in multi-stage hydraulic fracturing of horizontal wells. It allows operators to open specific stages in the wellbore by dropping balls of various sizes into the well. Each ball travels downhole and lands in a matching seat within a sleeve, applying pressure that shifts the sleeve open, allowing fluid to enter the formation for stimulation.

🛠️ Key Responsibilities

  • Enables zonal isolation and controlled access to individual stages
  • Eliminates the need for wireline or coiled tubing for sleeve activation
  • Simple and reliable method for rapid stage-by-stage stimulation
  • Commonly used in cemented plug-and-perf alternatives or open-hole completions
